North Jefferson Womens Center

Birmingham, Abortion Alternative, Unplanned Pregnancy, Pregnancy Center, Abortion, Pregnancy Test An important option to consider is whether or not to parent your child. As you think about your options, ask yourself the following questions:

*How can I provide for my baby if I don’t have a place to live, a job, or an education?

Keep in mind that centers like ours provide support services throughout your pregnancy and beyond. We can provide information for resources such as housing, childcare, Medicaid, food, and education/job training. We also provide maternity clothes, diapers and wipes, baby clothes, and many other items you will need for your child. These are all free of charge to those participating in our programs.

*What are the responsibilities of the father?

Every child needs a healthy, active relationship with their father if possible. Legally, the father has a financial responsibility toward the child. We have information for state support services should he not want to help provide for the child. Discuss his role and responsibility with him, but keep in mind you may have to prepare to do this alone.

*I’m not sure I’ll be a good parent.

No one is a perfect parent and everyone struggles at times. We offer baby care and parenting classes to help you. Parenting is a lot of hard work and you will have good times and bad times. If you find that you cannot offer the kind of parenting you feel your child deserves, we can also help you with information about adoption.
